Steps in Applying for University Status

  1. Secure a copy of CHED Memorandum Order No. 48, series of 1996 Updated Standards and Guidelines for the Grant and/or Retension of University Status vis-a-vis Higher Education Institutions and CHED Resolution No. 28 series 2000 for reference and to serve as guide for the conduct of assessment.

  2. Conduct self-assessment using the Application for Conversion into University Status matrix

  3. Upon compliance with the criteria, send application letter for university status to:

Note:

•Existing universities, except those that have been registered as single-track universities are given five (5) years within which to comply with CHED Memorandum Order No. 48, S. 1996

•For existing universities with several campuses that want to be identified as a University System, the provisions in CMO No. 48 S. 1996 shall be considered in self-assessment

•Existing PHEIs granted autonomy status are not allowed to carry the university status to their branch or satellite campuses without prior approval from CHED
